Why support A.C.T.I.O.N.?

1.  A.C.T.I.O.N. helps youth leaders succeed.
THE POINT is pleased to report that of the nine 2012/13 A.C.T.I.O.N. seniors, 100% have applied to and been accepted to college for fall 2013! Previous A.C.T.I.O.N. graduates have received awards including the POSSE Scholarship, Fulbright Scholarship, Brower Youth Award and Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes and have attended institutions of higher learning including Vanderbilt University and Cooper Union as well as other post-secondary programs including Americorps City Year.

2.  A.C.T.I.O.N. supports the local South Bronx community.
A.C.T.I.O.N. works to identify social and environmental justice issues facing Hunts Point with the goal of developing ongoing youth-led solutions. The teen leaders advocate for issues important to the South Bronx community including Food Justice & Urban Agriculture, Sustainable Development, Transporation Equity and Tobacco Free Neighborhoods.

3.  A.C.T.I.O.N. supports other social and environmental justice communities throughout New York City, the nation and abroad.
A.C.T.I.O.N. takes part in strategic alliances working for positive change including the Southern Bronx River Watershed Alliance, the NYC Environmental Justice Alliance and Hive Learning Network NYC. The group is also working to make the A.C.T.I.O.N. model replicable in other communities through projects like the new open-source, multi-media Community Organizing Toolkit for the 21st Century.

4.  A.C.T.I.O.N. gives back.
A.C.T.I.O.N. teens help cultivate the next generation of youth leaders through projects like Fun A.C.T.I.O.N. Fridays, which engage early and middle grades students in the group's social and environmental justice projects. In addition, A.C.T.I.O.N. alumni have returned to the South Bronx to work in community organizations including THE POINT and the Hunts Point Alliance for Children and for public officials including Congressman José E. Serrano.
